Sturbridge contest report - sunday April 29th
The Sturbridge Lawn Darts held their Spring Gremlin contest on April 29th. Stock and open classes were held. We had 8 pilots and 7 flew in each class. During our check flights, Al Vasquez toasted his open class ship. For an iffy day, we had a good turn out of contestants and spectators as can be seen by the full parking area. The combat was intense at times and people mixed it up. We had 4 cuts in 11 flights in stock class and 2 cuts in open class including an impressive midair between John Zinckgraf and Bob Barger Sr. Bob flew on through and all we saw on his plane was foam in the fins of the muffler. John's plane came down like a maple seed. Here's a few more shots of the flightline action. I even got to fly as designated target since we had an odd number of contestants. You will notice a half point in second place in the stock results. In one round the landing was within an inch at over 23' away and so we called it a toss up. First time I remember that happening. Thanks to Bob Barger and my daughter for photo contributions.

The Quinapoxet Model Flying Club contest sunday May 27th
It was Sunday on Memorial weekend. It was a balmy 78 degrees, with hardly any wind. The sun was out and making it a perfect spring day for a Gremlin combat day. All together 8 pilots flew in open and 6 in stock, Of course only the who’s who in Gremlin Combat was there on this fine day, which where: Me - Al Vasquez (CD), David Beach, Jim Reith, Bob Barger Jr. and Sr. (AKA Team Barger), Devan Wiebe and a fairly new to Combat Kerry Caviston (soon to be schooled) and the famed Tom Loose. In heat one of stock there was one cut when Bob B Sr. cut David B but David took the landing point. In heat 2 of stock David B cut Jim R and took the landing point as well for a 4 point round. I cut Kerry but let the landing point get away to Kerry. There where no cuts in heat 3 in stock. Heat 1 in open saw no cuts, but did see my plane do a fly away when it stopped responding to command, it went in full throttle and took every thing out including the receiver, I hate when that happens. Round 2 in open, saw me cut and take the landing point from Kerry for a 4 point round. I the third round Bob B Jr. cut and took the landing point from Jim R for a four point round. When all was said and done and we retrieved all the planes that went down and landed in the trees, and there where a few. In stock, David Beach took 1st and Bob Sr. and I had a fly off for second and third, landing point only and Bob took 2nd. In open Bob Jr. and I fly off for 1st landing point only and I managed to squeeze by Bob Jr. by a hair for the win. And David B took 3rd. The turn out was great and I would like to thank Tom Welch a good friend of mine that came down to watch and to do all the cooking of the deli dogs, which he did a great job. And I would like to thank all those who came, and the QMFC for sponsoring the contest. Al Vasquez CD
